NAC is derived from an amino acid known as L-cysteine. NAC is an antioxidant that is able to support the bodies detoxification activity in the body. Additionally, there has been evidence that shows that NAC can have additional benefits on the body. For example, in some individuals NAC has been found to decrease levels of homocysteine, an amino acid that has been linked to being a risk factor of heart disease. NAC has also been found to lower levels of fat in the blood by reducing lipoprotein(a) which also can be helpful in preventing heart disease by reducing the risk of atherosclerosis.
Benefits of N-Acetyl Cysteine can include:
- Reduction in levels of homocysteine, resulting in better heart health
- Reduction in levels of lipoprotein A, a fat located in the blood that can lead to atherosclerosis
